Time With My Maker

I spent some time with my Maker this morning. First, I praised him for who he is. Almighty God. None like him. ("I am God, and there is none like me,” Isaiah 46:9.) None but him. ("I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me,” Isaiah 45:5.) I thanked him for all he’s done and all he’s doing. I asked for direction in my life. I asked to be a vessel with purpose and not just an empty, useless jar of clay.

It might not be a popular message, but absolutely nothing in the world can satisfy your soul except time spent with the One who created it. Alcohol can’t satisfy your soul. Drugs can’t satisfy your soul. Illicit relationships can’t satisfy your soul. Eastern religions can’t satisfy your soul. New Age practices can’t satisfy your soul. Those things might bring temporary relief from suffering, or give a momentary sense of earthly fulfillment, but the soul of man longs to be near the One who made it; there are no workarounds.

Thankfully, you don’t need a degree or a long robe to spend time with your Maker. You don’t even have to be in a church or a synagogue. All you need to do is believe that he is listening and start talking. Young, old, rich, poor, educated or ignorant; all are welcomed, day or night. Oh, and once you're done talking, don't forget to be quiet and listen for his still small voice.

Hebrews 4:15-16 says: “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come ‘boldly’ to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

He won’t barge into your life and demand time with you, but his Word tells us that if we draw near to him, he will draw near to us.

A peaceful evening to you all. For those of us still in the workforce, tomorrow is Fri-yay!
