Goodbye 2019

In a few hours, the clock will strike midnight and this year will tick away. I don’t know what 2020 holds—none of us do—but 2019 taught me a lot about myself and reaffirmed some old truths:
1. Believing in a good God helps you cope with bad things.
2. Cheerfulness is a choice.
3. You can’t control what others do, say or believe.
4. Money doesn’t make a person rich.
5. Death can call on a cloudless day.
6. Helping others helps you most.
7. Great loss can blind you to the beauty that remains.
8. The nearest thing to heaven is a child.
9. God’s peace can only come when you surrender all.
10. Moon Pies make you feel better all over.
11. Prayer might not change your circumstances, but it can change you.
Here’s wishing everyone a new year, filled with purpose, promise and peace. Happy 2020!
