Easter In The Cemetary

I ate Easter lunch in my car at the cemetery today. Might sound strange, but it was what I wanted to do. To my surprise, others were doing the same, but not in their cars. One family was in lawn chairs, gathered around the grave of their loved one. Another family had brought a portable table and was laying out a graveside feast. We all had one thing in common, I guess: We missed the dearly departed.

Before leaving, I drove around to the pond and threw my leftover French fries to the ducks. I’ve fed them many times before, and they seemed to recognize me as they waddled through the blooming clover. I assured them that I would return soon. A loved one is in their midst now. No, I don’t ever plan to set up camp and spend the day at Daddy’s grave, but I have found comfort in being near his temporary resting place, more so than I thought I would. I'm grateful he's nearby.
