We had a mandatory meeting at the office this afternoon. On my way there, I grabbed a bite to eat and swung by the cemetery to linger with Daddy for a spell. What a perfect day it was, and he would have loved this weather.
After finishing my lunch, I thanked Daddy for every prayer he ever prayed for me, and I assured him that his prayers are sustaining me even today as I find myself in a fierce, yet familiar, storm.
My mind went back to 2017, a time when this same storm had almost consumed me. On this particular day, however, God spoke some lyrics and a melody to my mind. Oddly enough, tt was a song about trust, and I clearly remember forcing myself to sing the song and speak the words. The hook line was the problem for me. It said, “I will trust You,” and every time I got to that line, I, literally, had to force myself to say those words: I will trust You.Today, the same storm still seeks to consume me and, on occasion, trusting is still hard. But truth is, I’m totally prayed out. I’ve prayed enough prayers to move a million mountains. Thus, trusting is the only viable thing left for me to do.
What about you, friend? Are you in a storm that never ends? Are you totally prayed out? Maybe God gave me this little chorus in 2017 for both of us. You’ll have to put your own tune to it, but if anxiousness rules your day, I encourage you to speak these words aloud and force yourself to trust. Like me, you might have to repeat the process again and again, but what other option is there? Beating the walls and howling won’t change anything. Letting it go and embracing grace is your very best option. Here are the words to our little chorus. May you say them until you mean them.
Even when the sky falls
And my heart breaks
And the tears roll
Down my sad face
I will trust You.
When I’m hoping
And I’m praying
But the mountain isn’t shaking,
I will trust You.
When the night comes
And I can’t sleep
And a tear drops
With every heartbeat,
I will trust You.
And you’ll give me grace
For another day
And you’ll hold me close
And I’ll hear you say
I can trust You.
